Sarah Young is a gifted and anointed writer. I LOVE this version of Jesus Calling. Now I feel that each 24 hours is complete. Every morning, I sit down with a delicious hot cup of coffee, my Bible, my new devotional and bask in God's peaceful presence. Then at the end of my long busy day, I snuggle down into my bed, pick up my devotional and turn to the evening portion and hear my Lord's voice before I go to sleep. It's a wonderful feeling of peace, comfort and joy as I close my eyes and hear the Lord's beautiful words in my ears.
This is the second time I have bought "Jesus Calling." This time I got two different ones because I want to use them to create an all-day practice. With this one, the Morning and Evening Devotional, I can start and end my day in the Word. What a privilege. I lost my first copy of the book to someone's dishonesty, and have wanted another one for over a year. The peace that comes with devotionals is so uplifting, but especially with Jesus Calling, because they have two or three scriptures every day. The devotionals where people just share their own thoughts and life experiences can stray from what the Bible actually says, which is why I choose this one. The other copy I got this time is the journaling edition, which I will do at mid day. I'm quite excited about this study. And, before I end this review, I just want to say I could not have gotten a better price than I did from Amazon! It allows my money to stretch so much further.
This book does not have the scriptures printed on the page, just the references. I thought that I was buying a book that included additional information to my "365 Daily Devotional - Jesus Calling- Enjoying Peace in His Presence" copyright 2004, 2011; but instead I felt like I was receiving much less information. I am returning the book. I was about to order another copy of the edition that I love for a friend, but after reading the reviews of the imitation leather edition that looked like my book, the reviews are stating that it only has scripture references on each page, but not the written out scriptures. The copyright of the book that is being sold now has " November 3, 2015" which seems to mean that the publishers changed the format of the book that many of us love so very much. if we want the scriptures written out on each page don't buy the new copyright edition. Look for the 2004 2011 copyright, instead, of "365 Daily Devotional - Jesus Calling- Enjoying Peace in His Presence."
I have the original “Jesus Calling: finding peace in His presence†devotional which I absolutely love!! I got this because it has a short evening devotion that I really like to read before bed. Just an FYI—The morning devotional in this book is the same as that in the original Jesus Calling but it does not have the related scriptures printed out. The evening devotion does. I have 3 different devotionals by Sarah and I have ordered the original Jesus Calling for family and friends. I always make sure that the devotional has the scriptures printed so that no one has to look them up. “Jesus today†is another of Sarah’s devotional and is a wonderful devotion when one is going through a struggle/difficult time. I read it everyday also, whether in good times or difficult times. Again, make sure you buy the version with scriptures printed out, not just listed.
I own three versions of Jesus Calling - personal-sized teal, fuchsia larger with full verses and this one. I also own Jesus Today, Jesus Always, the phenomenal Jesus Lives and have given different versions to friends and family as gifts. Quality of this large thick heavy bedside book is great. Wish it were available in NON-DARK BROWN (yuck) more feminine colors. Also, ONLY the EVENING page (right side) contains full verses, but there is PLENTY of room on the morning page to print them. Not sure why they choose not to do so - just use a smaller font for scripture. C’mon, Sarah. Love you and all your Holy Spirit-written, inspiring, life-changing books. Please don’t stop writing until you reunite with y/our Savior who’s returning soon as you know. This and her other books will help you prepare for imminent Tribulation. The daily devotions contain a devotional reading, plus notes of relevant Scripture texts that can be read in addition to the material for a given day. Although I have not read the devotions for the days of the calendar year, I assume that the text of the devotion is presented as if Christ were addressing the reader in real time. A typical example of this would be a line such as this: "I will always stand by you and comfort and strengthen you in times of trouble." For some one who has read devotions/meditations in both German and English this takes some getting used to. In retrospect this is reflected in the title.
This is a most beautiful book. I just love it. So inspiring, bringing out beautiful words of scripture that make me feel so loved. It would make a wonderful gift for anyone -- and I already have someone I know would benefit from it greatly who is just staring out reading the Bible. What a beautiful gift Sarah Young has to inspire one's personal journey with God and The Christ whether they are just starting out -- or for lovers of God and His Son, it will even deepen the journey one already has. Thank you Sarah Young for writing this book!
This is to be a gift for my granddaughter on the day she moves into her dorm to begin her college studies. I looked through it, and I feel she will really use it and find it meaningful. I have the book, Jesus is Calling and have enjoyed it for several years now. On any given day, one of the pages may seem to be just what I needed ~ what God wanted me to read that day.
